Characteristic features of Omaha poker
Omaha poker is much related to Texas Holdem. So, in spite of Omaha is not hard to study if you know Holdem, the methods between the two games are very different.
The purpose of the Omaha poker game is to make the best five card poker hand using the four cards that the player has been dealt and the five cards on the table that each person can see and take.
Omaha poker starts at the “dealer” position and continues around the table in a clockwise manner. The dealer position is noticeable by a disc or button that moves around the table after each hand, this guarantees that all players get the dealer button.
The blinds are placed:
In Holdem there are four rounds of betting, but before that two bets should be placed to guarantee there is some money in the pot to play for. These are called as the “blind” bets, for the reason that they are made before anyone has seen their cards.
The Omaha poker player first to the left of the dealer button places the “small blind” – this is half the sum of the first bet. The next player to the left then places the “big blind” which is the full sum of the first bet.
Cards are dealt:
At this time each player is dealt four cards each, starting with the player to the left of the dealer. These are “hole” cards and cannot be seen by any other player.
Betting:
By the way the first round of betting starts, with the first player to the left of the big blind. This arrangement is called as “under the gun”. The player can also “call” – or put a bet identical to the big blind; “raise” – enlarge the sum of money bet or fold – throw in his cards and give up his interest in Omaha.
When the betting goes once more to the small blind position, that player has got to put in half the small bet once more in order to call. This motivation means he has put in the full sum of the small bet. The betting ends when each person has put in the same sum.
The flop:
When the first three “community” cards are dealt, these cards can be seen and taken by all the Omaha poker players.
A round of betting pursues, wherever players can raise, call, or fold. If the betting goes round once more time, players can also “check” which means they desire to stay in Omaha poker game but not to put any extra money into it.
The turn:
A fourth community card is dealt. The third round of betting is going on.
The river:
The fifth and the last community card is dealt. The fourth and final round of betting is going on.
Showdown:
If there are any players remained in the game, the person with the highest hand wins.
